The brief

The owners had just renovated the kitchen and opened up the back of the house, and the new glazing flooded the room with afternoon glare. They wanted the harsh downlights gone, the heat under control, and music for weekend mornings, without the house ever feeling like a gadget.

Layered light for a busy house

We replaced the flat grid of downlights with layered, dimmable scenes: bright and practical for homework and cooking, low and warm for dinner, and a soft path through the house at night. Each one set to a single touch.

Shade for the south-facing rear

Silent blinds across the rear glazing ease down through the afternoon to take off the glare and hold the heat, then lift again in the evening. They follow the sun on their own, so nobody has to think about it.

Music through the ground floor

Even, warm sound runs across the kitchen, dining and garden room, grouped for friends on a Friday or split for a quiet morning, and it lifts gently as the evening scene comes up.

The house finally feels the way we always wanted it to. One touch in the evening and everything just settles.
